Birchbox Subscription Box Review - April 2015

Birchbox April 2015 Mad Men Box

I chose the Mad Men New York edition for this month's box selection. It was a tough choice between the Rifle Paper Co. box vs. Mad Men version. However, as a fan of the series, and seeing the raving reviews of the Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel, I decided on this box.

Birchbox April 2015 Mad Men Box Detail Card

The box comes with a card detailing all of the items. The prices reflect the full-size products, not the sample versions in the box.

Birchbox April 2015 Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel

Product: Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel (0.085 fl oz)
Retail Value: $6.68

As the name suggests, this is a clear gel for the brow. It's intended to set your brow in place with a long lasting hold. The mascara style applicator is super easy to use. However, the gel smells a little bit like liquid glue to me. It makes my brow feel slightly coarse, but seems to do its job.

Birchbox April 2015 Beauty Protector Protect & Oil

Product: Beauty Protector Protect & Oil (0.25 fl oz)
Retail Value: $1.62

The bottle doesn't specify the amount, so I estimated the container to hold about 0.25 fl oz. According to the instructions on Birchbox's site, you only need 1-3 drops to go from roots to ends for damp hair. It can also be applied to dry hair to help tame frizz. However, you need a bit more to distribute it on dry hair.

Birchbox April 2015 Cargo Swimmables™ Water Resistant Blush in Los Cabos

Product: Cargo Swimmables™ Water Resistant Blush in Los Cabos (0.11 oz)
Retail Value: $7.73

I don't apply blush often. However, this product can be used as an eyeshadow as well. It has great reviews, and is water and sweat resistant. The only issue I noticed is that the lid on this container is pretty difficult to open. I am not sure if it's the case with the full size version.

Birchbox April 2015 Liz Earle Eyebright™ Soothing Eye Lotion

Product: Liz Earle Eyebright™ Soothing Eye Lotion (1.6 fl oz)
Retail Value: $8.00

Although the title indicates lotion, it is actually a clear liquid/gel like substance. There isn't much fragrance besides a hint of aloe vera scent. I tried a little on my hand and it feels cool to the touch.

Birchbox April 2015 Whish Shave Crave Shaving Cream in Blueberry

Product: Whish Shave Crave Shaving Cream in Blueberry (0.75 fl oz)
Retail Value: $2.93

This shaving cream smells like sweet blueberries. It is composed of natural and organic ingredients. In addition, it is paraben, sulfate, DEA, TEA and petrochemical free. I like products without too much chemicals, so I will enjoy this sample.

ProductsRetail Value
Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel (0.085 fl oz) $6.68
Beauty Protector Protect & Oil (0.25 fl oz) $1.62
Cargo Swimmables™ Water Resistant Blush in Los Cabos (0.11 oz) $7.73
Liz Earle Eyebright™ Soothing Eye Lotion (1.6 fl oz) $8.00
Whish Shave Crave Shaving Cream in Blueberry (0.75 fl oz) $2.93
Total $26.96

Final Thoughts: While I am not overly excited about all of the products, I do like the Mad Men collaboration and the limited release outer box. The Anastasia Beverly Hills eyebrow gel works fine, but nothing spectacular. I'm glad I got to sample it instead of investing in a full-size version. I've been making sample selections every month, so I am going to let Birchbox surprise me for the upcoming month to see what they come up with.
