Julep Mystery Box Review - May 2015

The Julep Mystery Box is a box of beauty surprise items. It contains Julep branded products and the May box has an advertised value of $150+. I purchased this box for the spoiler item, which is a vegan leather BRIKA + Julep artist collaboration pouch. Of course, I also love nail polishes, so the decision was easy. You do not need to be a Julep Maven in order to buy the mystery box. It is a one time purchase, so no subscription is required.

Julep Mystery Box May 2015 - BRIKA + Julep Pouch

Julep Mystery Box May 2015 - BRIKA + Julep Pouch Inside

Product: BRIKA + Julep Pouch
Retail Value: $40.00 (Estimated)

This BRIKA + Julep vegan leather pouch measures 9" x 11". The color and pattern is great for the Spring season. In addition, it's big enough to fit an iPad mini and other accessories. The pouch is well made and really beautiful. I can't find the same pouch for sale on BRIKA's site. However, they sell cotton versions for $30, and leather ones for $50. Assuming vegan leather cost somewhere in between, I estimated it to be about $40. Regardless of the price, I really like this pouch and I'm so glad I picked up the mystery box.

Julep Mystery Box May 2015 - Nail Polishes

Product: Julep Nail Polishes
Retail Value: $70.00 (Full Size x 5)

Below are the nail polish color descriptions (from left to right in the photo). Shayla and Marcella are the two new exclusive colors.

  1. Shayla - Bombshell ($14.00) - Purple perennial full-coverage microglitter. This is a beautiful purple shade and I like the rainbow glitters.
  2. Marcella - Classic with a Twist ($14.00) - Weathered pink crème. I love pink nail polishes, so any shade works for me. Not sure if it's me, but I see a hint of purple in this polish.
  3. Bea - Bombshell ($14.00) - This color is described as lemonade crème. I don't own any yellow nail polish since it's not a color I would normally buy. However, I don't mind a little variety in my collection.
  4. Chatoya - Boho Glam ($14.00) - Bright platinum glitter top coat. This is similar to another color I own called "Chainmail", which is a slightly darker shade. I like silver-tone nail polishes, so I'm glad they included this one.
  5. Brandis - Boho Glam ($14.00) - Taos turquoise crème. I have a shimmery turquoise nail polish from another brand, so I'm excited for a matte version.

Julep Mystery Box May 2015 - Julep Length Matters Wow-Impact Mascara

Product: Julep Length Matters Wow-Impact Mascara
Retail Value: $24.00 (Full Size)

Most of the review says this mascara starts out fine and lengthens the lashes as advertised, but the results doesn't last and there's a lot of flakes and clumps. I already have a favorite mascara I'm sticking to, so I will pass on this one since I have no intention of looking like a racoon.

Julep Mystery Box May 2015 - Julep Lip Gloss in Vivid

Product: Julep Lip Gloss in Vivid
Retail Value: $20.00

The color of this lip gloss is described as iridescent burgundy shimmer. It's a deep burgundy with microglitter. The texture is slightly sticky but does feel moisturizing. It smells sweet like candy.

ProductsRetail Value
BRIKA + Julep Pouch $40.00
Julep Nail Polishes (Full Size x 5) $70.00
Julep Length Matters Wow-Impact Mascara (Full Size) $24.00
Julep Lip Gloss in Vivid (Full Size) $20.00
Total $154.00

Final Thoughts: I love the BRIKA + Julep pouch and nail polishes, especially the two new exclusive colors (Shayla and Marcella). These items alone is worth the price I paid. The total value of this box is $154, which is based on the regular Julep retail prices instead of the Maven prices since you do not need a subscription to purchase this box. I think this is one of the best mystery box, and I look forward to the next one!
