Loot Crate Subscription Box Review & Coupon - February 2015

I was pretty excited when Loot Crate announced the February "Play" theme. I am totally up for a video game, but I can imagine it would be challenging for Loot Crate (or any subscription) to send something too specific to individual preferences and consoles. Therefore, it's no surprise the games they included are more general and can be enjoyed by anyone.

Loot Crate February 2015 Magazine

The box comes with Loot Crate's mini magazine, issue #19, which contains articles related to gaming as well as details about the items. As usual, a collectible pin is included. The box itself converts to a board game created by Loot Crate.

Loot Crate February 2015 Mini Munny

Product: DIY Munny Figure (Kid Figure)
Retail Value: $14.99 (Estimated)

I airbrush anime/video game resin kits as a hobby, so getting this DIY Munny Figure is right up my alley. This figure is made exclusively for Loot Crate, and they even ran a design contest. I would have entered a contest like this two years ago, but with baby and full time job, it's difficult to find time.

Ready Player One Novel

Product: Ready Player One Novel (Random House)
Retail Value: $14.00

Ready Player One has a ton of great reviews. There's also recent news that Steven Spielberg is going to be directing the big screen adaptation of this popular novel. This should be an interesting read, and I hope to find some time to do it before the movie comes out. The retail price of this book is $14, but Amazon has it for around $8.

Loot Crate February 2015 Superfighter and Dice Game

Product: Exclusive Looter Edition SUPERFIGHT Card Game (SKYBOUND Games)
Retail Value: $15.00

I have no idea what Superfight is, so I went to learn about the game. This is a card game created by Darin Ross on Kickstarter. Here's a description of the game:

"Superfight is a hilarious card game based on fights between characters with superpowers (ex: zombie, George W. Bush, etc) and super problems (ex: inside a giant hamster ball, super speed, etc). Players create fighters from these cards, then argue with one another over who would win in a fight!"

This seems silly but makes a pretty fun game for parties. The exclusive deck contains 100 cards.

Product: Exclusive Rock-Paper-Scissors Dice Game (Loot Crate Labs)
Retail Value: $4.99

Loot Crate created their own spin on the classic rock-paper-scissor game using dice. Players select a colored die and roll against each other. The dice sides shows hand gestures that represent rock, paper, and scissor. Best of three is the winner. Retail value is an estimate based off of price of die.

Loot Crate February 2015 Hexbug

Product: HEXBUG
Retail Value: $14.99

Subscribers receive one of the six variations of HEXBUG: Original, Larva, Scarab, Ant, Glow in the Dark Zombie Larva, or Glow in the Dark Zombie Scarab.

Loot Crate February 2015 Waka Waka Atari Poster

Product: Waka-Waka Poster (Manny Peters)
Value: $4.99

Poster print of Manny Peters' Atari cartridge blueprint design. It measures 9" x 13". The poster came in a protective tube, but still have creases for some reason.

ProductsRetail Value
DIY Munny Figure (Kid Figure) $14.99
Ready Player One Novel (Random House) $14.00
Exclusive Looter Edition SUPERFIGHT Card Game (SKYBOUND Games) $15.00
Exclusive Rock-Paper-Scissors Dice Game (Loot Crate Labs) $4.99
HEXBUG $14.99
Waka-Waka Poster (Manny Peters) $4.99
Total $68.96

Final Thoughts: There are a lot of fun items in this box that can be enjoyed individually or in a group. I prefer more video game related products though. However, Loot Crate still did a good job tying the items to the theme (like they always do). I'm most interested in the Ready Player One book, but not sure when I’ll get a chance to read it.
