Loot Crate Subscription Box Review - November 2014

The theme for November's Loot Crate is "Battle". For the very first time, Loot Crate offered their past crates for sale. There was a bit of hiccup with the link not being clickable within the email that advertised the crates. After contacting Loot Crate's customer service, I was able to get the correct URL. The two crates available were for October and November of 2014. I chose the November one since the 'pirates vs ninja' t-shirt looked neat, and hubby was interested in the Mega Man Mini Helmet replica and also used to play HALO a lot.

Loot Crate Box with Special Instructions

This month's box has a special note printed on the outside which says: "Attention Looters - This crate is designed differently than any other crate before it. Please read the first page of the magazine to see how!"

Loot Crate November 2014 Mini Magazine Issue 16 and Pin

The box comes with Loot Crate's November 2014 Issue 16 mini magazine, which includes background on the 'battle' theme, how to use the special box, Assassin's Creed interview, article about evolution of Halo's battle, as well as details about the featured items. A collectible Loot Crate pin is included as always.

Loot Crate November 2014 Box Inside

The instruction in the mini magazine revealed that the box turns into a "battle ground" so you can set up your own battle and take photos.

Zen Studio Pirates vs Ninja T-Shirt

Product: Exclusive Pirates vs. Ninja Shirt (Zen Monkey Studios)
Retail Value: $19.99

This month's exclusive shirt features the age-old question of "Who would best the other in battle - Pirates or Ninjas?" The t-shirt is created in collaboration with Zen Monkey Studios. You can easily recognize their artwork style when you see other t-shirts they've designed. We got the shirt in a size large, which retails for $19.99 according to Zen Monkey Studios' site. Please note that this specific shirt is not available for sale. We did notice that the men's large runs a little small.

Assassin's Creed Unity Coin

Product: Exclusive Assassin's Creed IV Unity Coin with Velvet Pouch (Ubisoft Entertainment Inc.)
Retail Value: $8.00

The Assassin's Creed Unity Coin is double-sided, and has some weight to it. One side shows the game's logo, and the other side features the seal of the Assassins. Unfortunately, it doesn't quite look like the one in the game. According to the Loot Crate magazine, you can engrave your name on the space right below the logo, but doesn't specify how. I doubt we'd send it somewhere for engraving. In terms of the item value, it's sold on eBay for anywhere between $2 (plus $2 shipping) to $12 (free shipping). The value is based on the average eBay price since this item is not sold elsewhere.

Megaman Mini Helmet Replica

Product: Exclusive Mega Man Mini Helmet (CAPCOM)
Retail Value: $15.00

The Mega Man mini helmet replica is a Loot Crate exclusive. It is a good collectible item if you are a fan of the series. There are four helmet colors available (red, blue, green, and brown), and subscribers gets one at random. Luckily I received the blue one, which is my number one choice (I usually don't have much luck when it comes to getting the color I want through random selection). The helmet is pretty solid and not a cheap light-weight plastic. Since this is not sold in stores, I looked at some of the eBay listing/sold prices, and averaged it with how much I think it would be sold for if it were available for retail.

Mega Bloks HALO Figure

Mega Bloks HALO Figure Assembled

Product: HALO Drop Ship Mini Figure (MEGA BLOKS)
Retail Value: $3.99

This is the only non-exclusive item in this month's box. The HALO Drop Ship Mini Figure is produced by MEGA BLOKS. Each fighter comes in his own drop ship grenade with a removable sidearm. It is a 10-piece figure, which includes a stand with the HALO logo. There are four different ones available from this set, so I believe subscribers will receive one at random.

Street Fighter Headband

Product: Exclusive Street Fighter Headband (CAPCOM)
Retail Value: $7.99

This is an exclusive replica of Ryu's headband from the popular Street Fighter video game. I think it could work well as a part of a cosplay outfit, although I personally won't be dressing up as Ryu any time soon.

Loot Crate November 2014 Promo Cards

Product: Promo Cards
Retail Value: $45.96

There are three inserts in addition to the goodies: a card about pirates vs. ninjas, code for a full game download of Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition with Steam ($19.99), coupon for digital comic ($5.98), and offer for 50% off Lichdom: Battlemage on Steam ($19.99).

ProductsRetail Value
Exclusive Pirates vs. Ninja Shirt (Zen Monkey Studios) $19.99
Exclusive Assassin’s Creed IV Unity Coin with Velvet Pouch (Ubisoft Entertainment Inc.) $8.00
Exclusive Mega Man Mini Helmet (CAPCOM) $15.00
HALO Drop Ship Mini Figure (MEGA BLOKS) $3.99
Exclusive Street Fighter Headband (CAPCOM) $7.99
Total $54.97

Final Thoughts: It was a bit of a challenge to include a value for everything since most of the items are exclusive. I don't like to inflate the prices, so I researched and did my best to give them a fair retail value. The total I came up with is $54.97, not including the coupon codes for the games and digital comic download. Overall, this month's crate is decent and the products align well with the battle theme. T-shirts are always useful to have, and the Mega Man mini helmet replica is pretty awesome. I haven't played Street Fighter in ages, so I'm hoping to take advantage of the full game download when I find time. In conclusion, if you are a fan of the series represented in this box, I think the November 2014 Loot Crate has some good exclusive products and coupons you might enjoy.
