1Up Box Subscription Box Review & Coupon - May 2015

Since 1Up Box featured villains and heroes in past boxes, the May theme is focused on "Sidekick". We dressed up our baby son as Robin during last Halloween, so that was the first character that came to mind. My husband and I also love Yoshi, so we are happy Yoshi is included. (Please note that I refrain from referring to Yoshi as he or she since his/her gender is debatable. Yoshi is supposedly a boy, but lays eggs which makes Yoshi a girl. It's complicated. Sometimes Yoshi is portrayed as asexual.)

Boxometry 1Up Box May 2015 Review Detail Card with Pin

The box comes with an insert listing all of the products. It also shows variations of each item, if any. In addition, there's a collectible pin based on the theme.

Boxometry 1Up Box May 2015 Review Adventure Time BMO Plush

Product: Adventure Time BMO Plush
Retail Value: $19.95

BMO is a loyal, trusting, and helpful friend of Finn and Jake from Adventure Time. This plush is super adorable, soft, and cuddly. It measure approximately 8" tall. I like the little embroidery details all over the plush. It's a great toy for any Adventure Time fan.

Boxometry 1Up Box May 2015 Review Sidekick Dog Tag Robin

Product: Exclusive Sidekick Dog Tag
Retail Value: $10.00 (Estimated)

This is an exclusive dog tag featuring Robin, Batman's sidekick. The backside of the tag is an image of Robin's cape. There's a good weight to this necklace, and I really like the design. Since this item is exclusive to 1Up Box, the price is estimated based off of several similar comic dog tag necklaces.

Boxometry 1Up Box May 2015 Review Beep Boop Drawstring Backpack

Product: Beep Boop Drawstring Backpack
Retail Value: $5.00 (Estimated)

The Beep Boop Drawstring Backpack features a Star Wars mash-up in the form of R2D2. The bag is made out of 100% recycled materials by discountbags.com. You have to order a certain quantity from the site in order to get it for a lower price per bag, so the value is estimated.

Boxometry 1Up Box May 2015 Review Love My Sidekick Wristband

Product: Love My Sidekick Wristband
Retail Value: $1.00 (Estimated)

As much as I like subscription boxes, there are those moments when an item included is just completely useless. I think I experienced that moment with this wristband. Aside from it being too big and falling off my wrist when I put it on, I can't think of any appropriate time I would use this. I am not a fan of filler items.

Boxometry 1Up Box May 2015 Review Jack of Hearts Decal

Product: Jack of Hearts Decal
Retail Value: $1.00 (Estimated)

This is a sticker of Jake from Adventure Time. It looks like a card from a deck. Perhaps some people might like this, but it feels like another filler product to me. Perhaps 1Up Box is trying to bring in some variety to appeal to the younger subscribers?

Boxometry 1Up Box May 2015 Review Exclusive "Fist Bump" T-Shirt

Product: Exclusive "Fist Bump" T-Shirt
Retail Value: $14.99 (Estimated)

The exclusive t-shirt this month features two sidekicks, Yoshi and BMO, dressed up in glowing Tron suits giving each other fist bumps. My husband and I both love Yoshi, but we ordered the shirt in his size. It is made of 100% cotton.

ProductsRetail Value
Adventure Time BMO Plush $19.95
Exclusive Sidekick Dog Tag $10.00
Beep Boop Drawstring Backpack $5.00
Love My Sidekick Wristband $1.00
Jack of Hearts Decal $1.00
Exclusive "Fist Bump" T-Shirt $14.99
Total $51.94

Final Thoughts: I like majority of the items featured in this box. However, the wristband and sticker feels like fillers. The only comment I have is that I hope 1Up Box would choose quality over quantity in the future. I rather get less items with better quality than useless fluff I can't do anything with. Overall, the May 1Up Box still has good retail value.
