Product: Lulu Life Mosquito Repellent (South Sudan)
Retail Value: $9.95
When my husband and I were in Japan three summers ago, he got bitten by what we later found out to be King Mosquitos. The bites were huge, and later they merged together into some enormous bumps. This mosquito repellent immediately made me think of Japan, and how we should have had the foresight to bring one. Of course, hindsight is always 20/20. In terms of the mosquito repellent, it's made of Sudanese shea butter, and smells sort of minty. There aren't much mosquitos where we live, but this will definitely come in handy should we travel to somewhere hot and humid.
Product: Elephant Travel Journal (Sri Lanka)
Retail Value: $14.99
Alright, so this journal is made out of wild elephant poop. I'm not kidding. The story is that wild elephants eat a ton of grass or shrubs, and have a tendency to destroy crops. To protect their livelihoods, Sri Lanka farmers kill about 2.4 elephants a week. To save the elephants and provide jobs to local paper artisans, Pooh Paper creates writing paper from elephant poo that's clean, odorless, and eco-friendly. As a result, wild elephants are now perceived as an economic asset in Sri Lanka. I think I just got convinced to use poo paper.
Product: ApiHappi Drawstring Backpack (Sri Lanka)
Retail Value: $29.99
My drawstring backpack is burgundy, while the elephant journal is red. I'm not sure if GlobeIn purposely sent similar colors of the journal and backpack. Here's a description of the drawstring bag:
This is a pure handloom stringy bag that was designed and created by our very own Aparna. All our products are made in the island of Sri Lanka. Traditionally Stringy Bags are made with very cheap material by athletic companies. We decided to take a different approach. We discover and select the happiest colours available from local handloom producers. Each bag is carefully made with french seams to reduce fraying and decorated with contrast piping and strings to add that little extra spark. We hope our bright colors can bring a little creativity and inspiration into your day.
I can confirm that the quality is very good. The fabric is thick, and feels sturdy. This is great for outings such as going to the amusement park, or for travelling.
Product: Kuli Kuli Moringa Superfood Bar (Ghana)
Retail Value: $2.50
I generally don't like receiving snacks in boxes other than, well, snack boxes. It feels like a filler item amongst a box full of lifestyle products. It doesn't add much value either. With that said, this is the first time I've tried this moringa bar, and will probably be the last. While the bar is moist, which is a plus, I just don't like the flavor. I'm sure this bar is a healthier alternative, but it's just not for me.

GlobeIn sends all of their monthly goodies inside this signature handwoven basket. There are several different colors and patterns available for sale on their site. These are well made, and great for storage.

Final Thoughts: The most interesting product in this box is probably the elephant poo journal. The story behind the notebook is pretty amazing, and I'm glad it's helping to save the elephants. I also like the drawstring bag. It's well made and convenient to have handy. The mosquito repellent isn't too useful for me unless we travel to somewhere hot and humid. Last but not least, I'm not a fan of getting food items in non food subscription boxes. Overall, the July box has great retail value, but personally I only found some items to be useful.
