Birchbox Subscription Box Review & Coupon - August 2015

Boxometry Birchbox August 2015 Review - Box

The theme of the August Birchbox is "Soak It Up!" If you are not familiar, Birchbox is a monthly beauty subscription box. They usually send five beauty samples according to your profile. Sometimes they include an extra item as a bonus. Beauty samples include anything from skincare, haircare, and bodycare to perfumes and accessories (such as hair ties). Birchbox is one of the very first beauty sample subscription boxes.

Boxometry Birchbox August 2015 Review - Detail Card

The box comes with a card detailing all of the items. The prices reflect the full-size products, not the sample versions in the box.

Boxometry Birchbox August 2015 Review - Air Repair Complexion Boosting Moisturizer

Product: Air Repair Complexion Boosting Moisturizer (0.24 fl oz)
Retail Value: $2.40

This product is new to me as I've never used Air Repair brand before. It has a light sweet scent, and is moisturizing without being too greasy. It can be applied day and night, but this sample probably won't last very long if I used it twice a day.

Boxometry Birchbox August 2015 Review - Dr. Brandt Pores No More Cleanser

Product: Dr. Brandt Pores No More Cleanser (0.25 fl oz)
Retail Value: $2.50

I seem to receive a lot of Dr. Brandt Pores No More products from various beauty subscription boxes. One thing to note is that this is formulated for oily/combination skin. If you have dry skin, this product may not be for you as most people find that the cleanser can be quite drying.

Boxometry Birchbox August 2015 Review - Dr. Jart+ Vital Hydra Solution Deep Hydration Sheet Mask

Product: Dr. Jart+ Vital Hydra Solution Deep Hydration Sheet Mask
Retail Value: $6.00 (Full Sheet)

This hydration mask is formulated without parabens, sulfates and phthalates. Similar to most Asian masks, you cleanse and apply toner before using the mask for 15-20 minutes. Instead of rinsing, you gently pat the remaining serum until it is completely absorbed by the skin. I haven't tried this specific brand before, but it appears to be Korean (judging from all of the Korean writing on the packaging).

Boxometry Birchbox August 2015 Review - Rusk Volumizing Mousse

Product: Rusk Volumizing Mousse (1.5 oz)
Retail Value: $3.38

My hair is long and straight, so I don't care much for volumizing mousse. I received a Rusk hair product last month as well. Not sure how else I can tell Birchbox "no more hair products" besides unchecking every single hair care related option. It doesn't seem to be working.

Boxometry Birchbox August 2015 Review - theBalm Cosmetics Balm Dessert Bronzer/Blush

Product: theBalm Cosmetics Balm Dessert Bronzer/Blush (0.028 oz)
Retail Value: $2.60

Again, I am not much of a bronzer or blush user, so this product is another miss for me.

ProductsRetail Value
Air Repair Complexion Boosting Moisturizer (0.24 fl oz) $2.40
Dr. Brandt Pores No More Cleanser (0.25 fl oz) $2.50
Dr. Jart+ Vital Hydra Solution Deep Hydration Sheet Mask $6.00
Rusk Volumizing Mousse (1.5 oz) $3.38
theBalm Cosmetics Balm Dessert Bronzer/Blush (0.028 oz) $2.60
Total $16.88

Final Thoughts: This is probably one of the lowest value box I've received from Birchbox. I feel like I continuously receive items I'm not interested in even though they are supposedly customized to my preferences. After several months of this, I've come to the conclusion that Birchbox just isn't for me. I signed up for an annual subscription, so I will just wait for it to end and then cancel. I think my money's better spent with Ipsy.
